I photographed this little new older brother just over a year ago. His mom called me a couple of months ago to tell me they had another little boy and asked me to come and document again in their beautiful home. I love being a part of documenting these fleeting and sweet moments and watching families grow.

It is a wretched gift,
to be fully present,
absorbing every detail,
and breathing
in deep
the sacred now,
only to have
it become
a wispy memory
I can hardly
remember at all //why can’t I stay in this moment forever// Bec Ellis

Birth story share!
Part 1 Noelle & Ryan’s Birth Story: When I first met Noelle and Ryan, they were planning a birth center birth with a midwife, taking birth and parenting classes and preparing their home for the baby to arrive. They hired me as their doula and birth photographer to be there for the birth of their first baby Dragon. Their last name is Dragon and they are both amazing musicians and met while working at Disneyland. I have to say that their connection and love for each other is inspiring.
In the late part of pregnancy, Noelle started having signs of Preeclampsia but wasn’t diagnosed. As a precaution, she was monitored and had tests. After the midwife concluded it was best to transfer care to the hospital, the birth plans obviously changed. The goal was still to have as much of the birth preferences to remain intact. She was induced on a Sunday afternoon and labored through the evening. I joined them around 4:30 am. The little guy just did not like the pitocin and even though she was having contractions on her own, the dilation wasn’t progressing as much. They tried a few other things to encourage dilation and progress, she moved around and changed positions as much as she could. But when all was said and done the concern for the consistent decels in the baby’s heart rate was present and concerning. They chose to do a cesearean. The doctor and anesthesiologist agreed for me to be in there with them. However, we were encountered by a protest and disagreement by the nurses on allowing me to go in. Her mother, stood up for me to go in, spoke with the head RN and she allowed me to go in. I’m so grateful I was able to be in there with them to support and to document the birth...exactly what they hired me to be there for. I often get asked how I support or how it works if a c section happens. A lot of it is emotional support and coming from a personal place of experience because of my own c section. It’s being able to be there for both of them and an extra set of hands, to comfort mom in the OR while dad is attending to the baby across the room. Being there for them in recovery and helping to breastfeed and to prepare for the days and weeks to come.

Welcome baby Dragon :) This little peanut weighed 5 lb 8 oz.
She asked for skin to skin in the OR, something you don’t get to see much these days. Usually they have moms arms strapped down to the sides but, Noelle asked she be able to have her hands free and to be able to hold the baby. So good for baby and mom to be skin to skin in those first moments of life.

Birth story Part 3
Noelle & Ryan (all shared with permission)
This woman right here, the new grandma who flew in from Dallas to be by her daughter’s side, is awesome. She stood up for me and her daughter and son-in-law so that I could be in the OR to support them and to document the birth. Wouldn’t have it any other way.
These were taken in the recovery room just after the birth. The sun was setting and reflecting off of the downtown LA buildings into the window onto mom and dad and baby.
Each birth has it’s own unique story and I’m so honored to be there to tell it through my lens.

Welcome to the world, Max!
Born to mom and dad, Kristen and Harrison, on September 19, 2019. The little guy made a big move from the east coast to the west coast while in his mama’s belly this summer. I connected with them this summer and we quickly bonded and planned the birth and made time for some prenatal yoga too. I even got to give my two cents on his nursery paint color.
I love being a part of those precious and profound days and moments leading up to the birth. And to be there in a way with an open heart and open mind when some extra emotional support is needed. Max is so lucky to be yours @kristenkiralyfilms

My niece, Ava. She turned one on October 6th. We celebrated her first birthday together in a small celebration that my sis made so special and went above and beyond.
She just took her first steps last night, on Halloween night. Just one year ago I was with my sis for three days in labor waiting for her to come earthside.
She has definitely brightened our family with so much love and joy this past year. We love you Ava!

We live and breathe words. .... It was books that made me feel that perhaps I was not completely alone. They could be honest with me, and I with them. Reading your words, what you wrote, how you were lonely sometimes and afraid, but always brave; the way you saw the world, its colors and textures and sounds, I felt--I felt the way you thought, hoped, felt, dreamt. I felt I was dreaming and thinking and feeling with you. I dreamed what you dreamed, wanted what you wanted--and then I realized that truly I just wanted you.

We are fortunate we have you
I kiss your forehead and wish you my life too
Someday if you ask me what is the meaning of happiness to me
I will say just one line
O Daughter happiness mean to me
it's just you, it's just you.

The minute I heard my first love story,
I started looking for you, not knowing
how blind that was.
Lovers don't finally meet somewhere.
They're in each other all along.
