Marmot's Posts

When I first climbed in Washington, it was on this tower. At the time, I had never climbed more than a pitch of sport, and the introduction to trad climbing opened up a world of opportunity. To be able to come back and show friends this place for the first time has been one of the more rewarding growth opportunities of my climbing career.

Three years ago, I wrote a paper about a peak in the Northern Cascades for a geology class I was taking. I chose to write about this peak for its jarring relief in a landscape where standing out is merely fitting in. Three years later, my relationship with Eldorado has grown further, but my perception is the same. Eldorado is truly the queen of the cascades, demanding recognition for her features, views and prominence. Every step up and down this mountain reveals more of what makes Eldorado different, and it was a joy to spend 14 hours crawling up and falling down this geologic relic.
