Out of the mountains of hashtags- #selfcare is like the Andes. The concept of ‘Self Care’ ranges from an internal phrase which names respecting your boundaries, to a caption below to your new ballerina shaped nail mani.⁣ ⁣ Self Care is a term which reclaims lost territory of overextending to our own detriment. Self Care honors ones empowered autonomy so we may bring our best to our lives. This is why Self Care is not selfish. ⁣ ⁣ I once heard an elder woman share a profound transformation of her consciousness when she shifted from wanting desperately to ‘save the earth’, to seeing her body as the plot of earth she could really heal. Self Care creates the conditions for healing, which is why it so powerful. When we make conscious choices in caring for ourselves, we strengthen our ability to Care. ⁣

Don’t you all love that cozy feeling of the Fall and Winter cusp? Smells like fallen leaves, tastes like apples, and feels like a wool sweater. Of course there’s the flip: the cold, dry air and that damn itchy sweater. Good thing us humans are expansive enough to hold the two experiences simultaneously! To take care of our bods during the Winter time is to spend less energy in suffering mode. ⁣ ⁣ Let Masa & Olive Face Paste be your ally in doing the work of sloughing off those dry skin layers, while making sure to seal in moisture by closing the skin protecting door behind her. Massaging your face (and bod!) with Masa & Olive brings that much needed circulation to the skin. Circulation=warmth=antidote to the deep Winter chill.⁣ ⁣ 📸: @hayflux ⁣
There’s funk, and there’s funk. The George Clinton variety, yes PLEASE. The in-between-the-toe variety, naw thanks. ⁣ ⁣ Newly named and updated, let us reintroduce Farewell Funk, formally Farewell Fungus, back into the pantheon of Fat and the Moon herbal first aid potions. Let’s turn this mother out, and give up the funk.⁣ ⁣ 📸: @hayflux ⁣
Our Lip & Cheek Stain is a celebration of vitality. Adding color to your lips and cheeks mimics that life-pumping, flushing effect which comes from exertion or excitement. Here at Fat and the Moon, we are inspired by Nature’s phenomena. We honor the deep roots of Alkanet and Beet who lend us their shades of reds, magentas, and pinks that remind us of Life.⁣ ⁣ 🎥: @hayflux
Friends! We are lucky to be nested in a community where names are fluid. One of my besties changed his name to Bear- a name which suits him better than anything I can think of. An oldtimer in the coastal town I used to live in had a few name iterations, finally landing on Fish Taco. I’ve known chosen names from Tooth Fairy, Sunshine Compost, Trash to Jennifer. I’m bout it. A name is a powerful thing, and it makes sense to me to choose a name that reflects your deep YOUness. ⁣ ⁣ In that spirit we’ve changed our Coldsore Kicker and Coldsore Killa to Balm and Buds Salve and Balm and Buds Tincture. As in Lemon Balm and her posse...a name to honor the plants who make it all happen.⁣ ⁣ 📸: @hayflux⁣
Theeeeese Bars, all the shampoo and conditioner you love- just add water! ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ We keep getting folks asking us about how many uses per bar. Remember the owl’s response to “How many licks does it take to get to the center of the Tootsie Pop?” Dang, still remember that satisfying crunch.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ My point: it’s aaall relative. Safe to say, think of how many uses it takes you to get through approximately 16oz of bottled shampoo, and apply to your nutrient dense Shampoo and Conditioner Bar. Our Shampoo and Conditioner Bars are like the superfoods of the hair cleansing world. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ 🎥: @hayflux
Nearing Halloween, aspects of ourselves not normally as socially acceptable are given room. Membranes between worlds thin. While I wouldn’t say we are ever suppressing our witchiness at the Fat and the Moon coven, Halloween gives us a good reason to revel in it. Being a Witch is more than a costume; it is a political act, and a world view.⁣ ⁣ Identifying as a Modern Witch is a reclamation of a derogatory word saturated with generations of fear and hate. Branching off circuitously from the same roots as the words ‘hag’ and ‘hex’, ‘witch’ connotes a particularly feminine hedge-dweller and edge rider.⁣ ⁣ Witches of today continue to live on the edge, to dip into liminal realms that blur the lines between opposites and upturn the boxes of the status quo.⁣ ⁣ For more on the Modern Witch, check out our latest blog post.⁣ ⁣ 🎨: Gorgeous image by @tincanforest⁣
In case life is feeling a little boring for you, check this: you are a thriving ecosystem. I’m not just talking about all the little symbiotic microorganisms camping out in your eyebrows and beyond...you are a universe with your own chemical composition. In the most boring terms, you rock a specific ph. Our bod’s ph is baseline (pun def intended) for the health of our skin and scalp. We tend towards more acidic that alkaline. So when we wash ourselves on repeat with alkaline soaps, or have hard water, our skin and scalp get sad. Our line of liquid and bar Shampoos and Conditioners are ph matched to our more acidic scalp. ⁣ ⁣ But sometimes you just need a little acid.⁣ ⚡️ ⁣ For a recipe those who reached out about hard water hair bummers, or for those who want the DL on clarifying the scalp, head on over to our blog!
