Hello! This is @sabrykhaled and I am taking over the instagram of #photopiacairo on 5th and 6th of April! . #ITO #photopiacairo Breathing coal The number of coal smelters - using wood - in Egypt has exceeded 3,000; they emit up to 5,000 millimeters of carbon emissions, although the maximum allowed emissions according the environmental law & official statements of the Environmental Protection Fund of the Egyptian Ministry of Environment, must not exceed 800 millimeters. Despite the severe damage caused by the smoke from the coal smelters, it is considered the only source of income for these families. There has been constant complaint from residents of their village, due to the health diseases they get from being around the coal smoke; chest diseases such as asthma, choking and shortness of breath! Thus, there has been governmental attempts to move them from the village to places that would harm people less; however, they completely rejected and still pursue their coal smelting activity.

This is @helrasam and I am taking over the Instagram of #photopiacairo on the 3rd & 4th of April . . . . . . . Hundreds of orphans from the 1994 Rwandan genocide still struggle in Kigali’s slums, often working as drug dealers or sex workers to stay alive. In the city’s Giporoso district, where hundreds of “sons and daughters of the genocide” reside, I captured the ravages of poverty, displacement, HIV, and other deeply-rooted and inescapable effects born of the massacres that orphaned them. The father of three has found a way to make the most of his talents - including repairing home appliances - which allows him to earn enough income to support his family. This is @helrasam and I am taking over the Instagram of #photopiacairo on the 3rd & 4th of April . . . . . . . Every year thousands of Muslims head to Mecca for the Hajj. The pilgrimage is the fifth pillar of Islam, however, for poor Sufi Muslims of Egypt and North Africa, life’s obligations may leave them without the resources to achieve their dream. In the Humaithera valley in Egypt, the annual Mulid (celebration) of Sheikh Abu al-Hassan al-Shazli, a 13th century Sufi Imam, gives those without the means to go to Mecca a more affordable option. This year, after commentators alleged Saudi Arabia might use revenues from the pilgrimage to pursue the crown prince’s foreign policies, including his deadly war in Yemen and the killing of Jamal Khashoggi, some Egyptian activists who do not agree with those Saudi policies are joining what has been called “The Poor Man’s Hajj.” #ito #photopiacairo #everydayegypt #everydaymiddleeast #everyday #hajj #saudiarabia #followfriday
This is @helrasam and I am taking over the Instagram of #photopiacairo on the 3rd & 4th of April . . . . . . . Christian tradition says that after Jesus was born, his parents fled with him to Egypt to escape death. Eventually they returned to their home in what was then known as the kingdom of Judea, and one of their last stops in Egypt was said to be at a cave in the Dronka mountains. Thousands of devotees of the Virgin Mary travel to the Virgin Mary Monastery near Assiut, Egypt every August to show their devotion to the holy family. Christian children are baptized and adults hope for blessings. This is @helrasam and I am taking over the Instagram of #photopiacairo on the 3rd & 4th of April . . . . . . . . . In Egypt, the years of turmoil following its 2011 uprising have seen revolutionary graffiti fade away as the country slowly tries to move on, but hidden scars remain for children who grew up during the chaos and lost loved ones.  The grief touches children of all kinds in this country, cutting across Christian and Muslim families, the sons of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group to the daughters of police officers and soldiers. And how they process the sorrow varies widely.  #follow Projects on the @arabdocphotography : http://arabdocphotography.org/project/traces-of-the-conflict @magnumfoundation @afac.fund @princeclausfund #ito #magnumphotos #magnum #instagood #instamood #art #expressionism #everyday #everydayegypt #everydaymiddleeast #photography #photooftheday #photographyaddict #style #stayhome #stayhealthy #staysafe #quarantine #repost
