Not at all a time for any type of promotion… I will be deejaying, nonetheless, for @unitedwestreamfrance at @rexclub this Saturday in an effort to help clubs survive despite lockdowns and Covid19. I want to stress that ALL the music I love and play out & listen to: Jazz, Soul, Gospel, Blues, Rock & Roll, Disco, House, Techno, Drum & Bass, Jungle, Footwork, Juke, Hip-Hop, R&B, Dancehall, even POP, was invented and is continuously created and pushed forward by Black People. The music industry has largely profited from their exploitation and I have made a living off playing their music in clubs, festivals, events, etc. I’m not trying to absolve my own guilt with this post but simply raise awareness… Black Lives Matter, Black Lives are beautiful, precious and the call for people of colour to be treated equally and have access to the same opportunities as White-looking people needs to be supported by EVERYONE. It’s not much, but I’ll be donating the entirety of my DJ fee to LGBTQ Fund – a bail out fund focusing on helping LGBTQ individuals in the U.S. – because let’s not forget club culture owes Black, Brown & Queer people EVERYTHING.
If you can and would like to donate to organisations and bail out funds there’s a link in my bio. If you can and would like to help french clubs, there are links over at United We Stream etc. I’m aware, money is tight for everyone, if you can’t donate but want to help, there is a Youtube video by Zoe Amira designed to redirect ALL ads revenue to organisations. Just let it stream and turn off adblocks.
